Personal trainer and DJ starts trans-only strength and conditioning classes

A Brixton-based personal trainer and DJ has created trans-only strength and conditioning classes in Loughborough Junction.

Isaac started the classes in March as a way to create an inclusive space where transgender people can train in a safe and supportive environment.

The 26-year-old also cited the ongoing debate and negativity surrounding trans people in sport as a reason for his idea.

Isaac said: “I have wanted to run a class like this for several years.

“It definitely is a tough time to consider how difficult it must be for trans people who want to excel in sport and fitness, and be open about it, and to do so without scrutiny of who they are and aspects of their physical transition.”

Isaac, who is trans as well, has been a qualified trainer for a few months, but has been giving his advice and training sessions to friends for a number of years.

He has noticed some trolling towards the classes on social media following his online promotion of the sessions.

However, the DJ has a positive outlook towards the future of the program after seeing a steady uptake in attendees.

Some travel from nearby communities such as Brixton and Peckham, as well as some students coming to from as far as Kent to join the sessions at Equal Fitness.

The personal training space and community gym on Flaxman Road was opened in September 2025 by Camberwell-born personal trainer Sam Slight, who wanted to create a space for all.

Slight said: “I think everyone deserves to train and have a space where they can express themselves.”

As well as working as a personal trainer, Isaac has made a name for himself as a DJ and music producer, working under several aliases.

Although he has plans to continue hosting the hour-long classes, which are held every Saturday from 1pm, Isaac is determined to keep the sessions small-scale – limiting them to 10 attendees in its current location.

He said: “It’s not a money maker and that’s not the idea – I’m doing it because I care about it.”
