Pie and mash, one of the most beloved East London traditions, has been discovered by a new generation of diners.
Videos on TikTok are amassing hundreds of thousands of likes of people trying the cockney cuisine for the first time in some of the oldest pie and mash shops in the capital.
Google trends data also shows that the number of searches for the dish have skyrocketed in the last decade.
A campaign is underway to reward pie and mash with special protected status like Champagne or Cornish pasties.
Traditionally a working-class meal and considered to be London’s original fast food, its history stretches back to over a century ago where the meal was first popularised in the Victorian era.
The pie is typically served with minced beef and served with mash potato and parsley sauce which is known as liquor.
