A new exhibition celebrating the creativity of young people with special educational needs and disabilities has opened at the South London Gallery.
This is Allowed Space is a free exhibition in the gallery’s Clore Studio, featuring work created by pupils from SEND schools in Peckham and Camberwell.
The exhibition showcases artwork by students from Tuke School alongside collaborative pieces produced with artists Yolanda Shields, also known as Milktooth, Jenny Pengilly and Billy Ash Sakula.
The project aims to promote the voices of young people who are often underrepresented in gallery spaces.
The exhibition explores inclusive, sensory and accessible approaches to art and learning.
It has developed through the Art Fund Teacher Fellowship, which runs until July.
Tuke School teacher Niall Deegan has been working in residence with the South London Gallery’s Communities and Learning team.
Organisers say the project highlights the value of partnerships between schools and galleries in creating opportunities for creativity, play and experimentation.
