Dulwich Hamlet determined to preserve identity as home ground exit looms

Dulwich Hamlet fans are determined to preserve the club’s community spirit as it prepares to leave its historic Champion Hill ground.

The Isthmian League Premier Division side was threatened with eviction in 2018 and has since launched initiatives to reconnect with local residents and boost attendance.

The club will leave the ground in the near future, but fans insist their history will not be forgotten despite the relocation.

Roger Deason, a club historian, said: “We have gone back in time to try and reinvent the club as who we were, to make ourselves relevant to the local community.

“You owe it to the people who were there. They deserve to be remembered.”

Founded in 1893, Dulwich Hamlet is celebrated for its inclusive culture and community work, and the club hopes the history these values are built on can be preserved.
