Ranah Stoiber is brimming with confidence after claiming a significant scalp to reach the third round of Junior Wimbledon.
The 18-year-old battled past Polish qualifier Malwina Rowinska in her opening round encounter, to set up Monday’s meeting against 16th seed Charo Esquiva Banuls.
And the Londoner, who trains at the LTA’s National Academy in Loughborough, impressed once again as she rallied from a break down in the first to ultimately prevail 7-5 6-3 and reach round three.
She said: “I’m pretty happy with the result considering she’s a higher seeded player – I think I brought my top level today and I just kept going with it. I used it to my advantage.
“I take a lot of confidence from that win – I’d love to be in their place.”
The Brit was down early on, with her Spanish opponent having in fact served for the opening set.
And Stoiber believes being able to claw back the opener and build some momentum was ultimately key for her in being able to come out on the right side of the result.
“She was holding quite a lot, so for me to get that break was pretty important for me,” added Stoiber. “I feel like I stayed quite level-headed and just got it done.
“The second set went my way quite quickly, and I just went with it.”
Stoiber will next face Italian Francesca Pace, who made her WTA Tour-level debut in doubles at the Emilia-Romagna Open last year – and who is the daughter of former world No.7 Irina Spirlea.
