WATCH: Shoreditch has a new grassroots queer comedy night

Queer Comedy Social is a group dedicated to platforming queer and alternative comedy in Shoreditch.

Held at the womxn-run Damsel Collective, the group began as a fundraiser for a queer film and quickly grew into a popular monthly event.

With more than half of London’s LGBTQ+ venues closing since 2006, according to data from the Greater London Authority, community-led events such as Queer Comedy Social have been instrumental in keeping inclusive spaces in the capital.

Founder and comedian Caz Thorne said: “It felt like it was creating a real sense of community.

“At a lot of the queer comedy clubs in London, you sort of see the same top comedians and obviously they are all incredible but we’re more about giving a platform to new, up and coming queer comedians.”

Throughout the night, carabiners – a historically lesbian fashion accessory – and Queer Brewing beers were on sale, making for a fun and inclusive night.
