Younger shoppers with an eye for quality craftsmanship and distinctive design are the focus of traders at a travelling London antique fair, who say vintage continues to attract a new generation of collectors.
In this video for the South East Londoner, Allan Old, founder of the So Last Century fair, is joined by Anna Kujanpaa of Dirty Bertie, Katy Duddy of Duddy & Day and Helleyne Agnellini of Eternovo to discuss the appeal of vintage clothing and furniture.
Old reflects on meeting shoppers in their 20s looking for ‘mid-century’ pieces, suggesting the term is often used as a byword for design and quality rather than simply period, while Kujanpaa highlights the gap in the market for vintage menswear and the enduring appeal of British craftmanship.
Eternovo’s Agnellini, on the other hand, explains her personal motivations for offering the occasional discount to burgeoning collectors.
So Last Century visits Beckenham Place Mansion on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August, St Dunstan’s College, Catford, on 24 and 25 October, and Goldsmiths College, New Cross on 29 November.
