WATCH: Raw milk at Borough Market: choice or risk?

Raw milk has taken health conscious young people by storm, with sales increasing by five times in the past five years, but health concerns about the product still dominate the market.

Steve Hook, of Hook and Son, has been selling raw milk since 2007. After realising that at 25p per litre, their cow’s milk was receiving little value by the dairy industry, he decided to cut out the middleman and sell directly to the customer.

Since then Hook and Son’s raw dairy products have been stocked in Selfridges and even had a documentary made on their production called The Moo Man.

Despite Hook and Son’s growing business, raw milk remains a highly controversial product, with the centre for disease control and prevention stating: “Consuming raw milk can lead to serious health risks, especially for certain vulnerable populations.”
