Shelter took over The Thirsty Bear in Waterloo for an evening of painting and prizes in their Sip and Paint event on 7 April.
All were invited to participate, with tickets ready to purchase at the door, and included access to a palette of paint, a brush and a canvas.
Attendees painted to the theme of springtime, and were serenaded with a playlist of music that incorporated lyrics of home, family and safety.
Event organiser and Shelter volunteer Alice Armes said: “I just hope that the public know how big a problem the housing crisis is right now, and how many people are affected each day, and hopefully the work we do here at Shelter with all these events really raises both money and awareness for this problem.”
The homelessness crisis in London has reached a new threshold of severity due to an increase in rent prices and reliance on temporary housing, as well as a shortage of affordable housing available for the most vulnerable.
Shelter is the UK’s leading homelessness charity, which offers legal advice to people facing housing issues, and advocates for more effective government policy strategies to prevent and safeguard those at risk of or already experiencing homelessness.
The event raised an impressive £503.42, and the winner for best painting, voted on by a panel of Shelter volunteers, took home some gin and an art set of their own.
